Your Flat Tummy Guide To Detty December

Dear Fit Foodie,

It’s December in Lagos, and you already know what that means—Owambe season is in full swing! It’s parte after parte.

Ita la f*ing wa.

Weddings, birthday parties, long-distance bae catchups, concerts, zaza and co! We dey.

And what all these things have in common is food and alcohol.

The Jollof rice will literally be calling your name.
The puff-puff will be winking at you.
And the drinks? O porrr.

So, God of flat stomach—how do you enjoy all this without stepping into January feeling like the very plantain you’ve been eating?

Sis, I’ve mastered the art. And because I love you, I’m going to spill the tea because your poor corset should not have to do any dangerous unpaid labor in the name of snatched bobriskys's voice

So here’s your guide to navigating party season like a pro:

Step 1: There Is Rice at Home (A.K.A. Eat Before You Leave)

This is my golden rule. Showing up to a party hungry is like boarding a danfo without change—confusion everywhere.

So, I always eat something light but filling before I go, especially if I know I’ll be drinking. Think grilled chicken, some rice, and a small salad.

By the time I get to the event, I’m not at the buffet acting like I’ve never seen Jollof before. Do you get?

Step 2: Portion Control Is Key

Let’s talk about your plate, babe. It doesn’t need to look like Mount Kilimanjaro! Here’s how I divide mine:

  • 1/4 Jollof rice (or carb equivalent)

  • 1/4 protein (chicken, fish, suya)

  • 1/2 veggies (small chops is not a vegetable oh!)

That way, I get all the flavours without the food coma. Balance is sexy. Period.

Step 3: Protein First

When you’re faced with options like pounded yam, fried plantain, Chinese fried rice, my dear, lean into the protein.

Think suya, nkwobi, pepper soup, grilled chicken, asun—all those things. They keep you fuller for longer, with less calories and they still taste good.

If you want a bit of something extra, pick ONE treat so your corset won’t embarrass you before you leave that wedding.

Step 4: Sip Smarter

Let’s talk about drinks. I know the Chapman and creamy cocktails look tempting, but they’re sugar bombs in disguise. Actually, dem show face.

So here’s what I do:

  • Go for spirits with soda water over sweet cocktails.

  • Alternate every alcoholic drink with water.

  • Two-shot rule: After two shots, my dear, are you even a serious babe?

Trust me, this keeps you hydrated, reduces hangovers, and helps you stay sharp for those after-party vibes.

Step 5: Legwork But Keep It Cute

“Bad B’s don’t dance” Sorry o.

Dancing is cardio. Full stop. Not only will you burn calories, you’ll also have the most fun, but fine girl, don’t come and display TikTok choreography o!
Lmao, it’s me I’m fine girl.

Appaz, we should dance like fine babes.

Watch TikTok videos and update your moves asap.

Here’s the Bottom Line:

You don’t have to miss out on the fun or the food to stay fit. The goal is to enjoy everything in moderation and stay in control.

✅ Focus on the company and conversations—it’s not all about the food.

✅ Decline refills of drinks you don’t need (you don’t have to say yes to everything).

✅ Keep desserts to one serving.

✅ Take a moment before going back for seconds. Sometimes, you’re not really hungry; you’re just bored.
